Gotta scan my PC tomorrow

Heads up, y’all! 

I’m hearing some infrequent subtle clicking coming from my laptop that’s freaking me out, so I’m gonna bite the bullet and run a full Check Disc / Scan For Errors / Bad Sectors thingamajig tomorrow. 

I’ve heard this same sound before like a year ago, or maybe a couple months ago (I don’t remember 😛 ), and I hadn’t heard it since, but I’m hearing it today and just eff no. If something goes wrong, I have NO money to fix/replace anything; if my laptop dies you might as well bury me with it. X__X So a gal’s gotta do what she’s gotta do (rob a bank).

I have 300,000 files and 200GB of space, and usually Malwarebytes takes a good hour to scan that, so I can just imagine how long the Check Disc scan thingy will take. (I’ve seen craziness online like people saying it took 16 – 72 hours – wtf?! 😡 I can deal live with 16 hours, but 72?)

Today I tried moving a lot of superfluous stuff onto my external hard drives, and I did my own cleanup of the Registry with CCleaner (5900 registry errors removed! O_O ), so when I go to bed I’ll let the scan start and PRAY it’s finished by the time I wake up. Otherwise I’ll just wile away the time reading a ton of Anne Rice novels and playing Play Station and trying not to cry. 😛

So this is just to let y’all know that I might be quiet for the next 24 hours. 

If it’s this time tomorrow and something’s wrong or it’s still scanning (I hope not), I’ll let y’all know from another computer.

Any of y’all ever done this before? How long did it take?

7 Hours! ^0^ It’s finished! 

0 bad sectors found (phew), and 0 hours of sleep, because every click and clank and whir had me just AWAKE. XD 

I read the results in Event Viewer,and I have no idea wtf most of the report meant; all I know is that I don’t have any bad sectors, which had me worried as heck, cuz I heard noises yesterday, and I know they say a quiet pc is a healthy pc. :

I nearly flipped out though, cuz it said something about 2 EA records processed, and I jumped up like WTF, EA!? 😡 If this is some SecuRom BS I will KILL someone! But then I googled it and it actually means “Extended Attribute”; some sort of metadata index file blah blah. Cuz I was about to say! XD

So yup, the parade has passed. (Blows raspberries at @tumblinrob – no beads for you! 😉 )

I hope Murf Jr’s gonna be okay now; I need her to last a good while longer.
