A long post about… packages?

greenplumbboblover:

I did some discovery today. More of EAs lies I suppose?

I mean if you think about it, it’s easier to do this through updates and crap since a DVD only has about 4 GB of space… usually. Not like 7GB most EPs sizes are. But lemme explain.

So I was trying to create my Pusheen the cat into a magic gone (thanks @ashuriphoenix for the inspiration ^.~)  But I couldn’t find the poses that the gnome makes in either the Delta nor the Fullbuild packages. And as always, I have a plan B to find the files! The ‘deltapackages in this exact path:
C:Program Files (x86)Electronic ArtsThe Sims 3GameDataSharedDeltaPackages

Anyways, everything looked normal, until I came across the ‘P05′ folder…

Fast Lane stuff! And I don’t even own the game! Here have proof:

And if you need any ‘double proof’:

Anywayssss I went into this P05 package and noticed these texts:

It even has meshes! And for people who have no idea what MLODs and GEOMs are, these are meshes, without the actual textures:

And believe me I don’t even own these as either CC or SP.

Sooo, any idea why they’re here? It feels like I just crossed an area EA never wanted people to either discover. But, it seems that these 4GB of DVD space is probably all taken by data that unlocks all these meshes and all. But they’re in my game just not in the FullBuild and Deltabuild yet.

Anyone else who noticed this?

I can actually confirm a level of truth in this, when I dabble with DLC files to extract and convert meshes from different games. A surprising amount of the time, some of the content you get in DLC is already in your effing game. Purchasing the DLC/EP/SP simply unlocks hidden content for your use, on top of the legit NEW content and gameplay added in. It’s called on-disc DLC and it’s incredibly douche-y when it pops up.

I usually only see this with games that have been planning their DLC/packs since before the base game was released. The paid content is already packed in, and for whatever reason is just staggered for release while giving the developers time to work on new stuff while we gamers are distracted by the “new” shiny things we’ve payed twice over for. XD

This is one of the reasons why people get so mad about DLC, because sometimes all you’re really paying for is an access code to unlock stuff you already bought in the base game.

Which is why I always stress getting crap on effing sale. 😉

On the other hand, though, sometimes the hidden content is wonky, in Beta, or unpatched, I’ll admit. Still shysty, but….
