Weekend Replies: The Witcher 3

Can someone explain popularity of the Witcher to me? I mean, I’m from Poland and we had those books since the 80s and they never were really popular. Now I see the whole world obsessing over it? 😀

It’s definitely because of The Witcher 3 video game.

Released in 2015, TW3 was so detailed, stunning, fun and full of unique & high quality content, that many people consider it either equal to or better than Skyrim – which makes it a big deal (X X). (It’s a tie, IMO. They’re both groundbreaking.)

There were 2 other Witcher games made before TW3 (I’m playing through them right now, and I really like them!), but TW3 is the penultimate game of the whole bunch, no contest. The combat & creatures, the characters & plots, the amazing soundtrack, the effing enormous open world(s) and it’s gorgeous graphics, the lore & mythos…. top tier.

TW3 won so many frikkin  awards, it was nuts; people were SHOOKETH.

The popularity and critical acclaim of the game made people want to go back and read the books, to better understand the Witcher universe and the plots and choices in it. Some even sat through subs of the old Polish tv show, just to get more of the backstory. People call The Witcher “the Game of Thrones of video games,” and it’s really no exaggeration – the war-torn medieval setting, the fantasy, the high-stakes political intrigue, the sex, the awesome characters…it’s pretty close. 😛 This is why Netflix picked up the show; hoping it’ll be their  answer to GoT – we’ll have to wait and see if they pull it off or not though. >_>

So, all that’s why The Witcher’s suddenly become so popular. Yes, the books are even older than the Game of Thrones ones, and there are previous versions of the games and tv show as well. But the franchise’s popularity went through the frikkin roof when The Witcher 3 video game was made, and everyone lost their collective sh!t over how fantastic it is.

If you haven’t played it yet, I recommend y’all pick up a copy – preferably the full set that includes the expansions, so you can experience TW3 in its full glory!

Good luck on the path, Witchers!
